Estelle Pemberton Response..

Okay.. So where do I begin,

Estelle Pemberton is what we call a "Jack of all trades" she has many skills and talents which has got her to where she is today.
She is originally from England and started off by completing her fine arts degree in 1994, She then later left her jobs at the time to head back to get welding qualifications so that she would stand out as an applicant for the technicion, Which had ended up getting her the job where she had learnt skills herself and worked there for about two years.
After leaving that job she met Pattrick Hughes and he offered her a job to work with him and later becoming his assistant.
She has had various jobs and has many skills; Welding, textiles, ceramics, waitressing and fashion. What really interests me about her is how she manipulates the given fabrics and creates many new things, The reinventing of neglected fabric, Hence the reason she has called her brand 'Recyled Glamour' . Her style of working is very intense, Its like she got bored with alot of her  situations and wanted something more and she did everything possible to make more excitement happen, shes very driven and strong willed. Shes inspiration, her style isn't my taste but i do rather enjoy her history where she isn't just stuck doing one style of art but she is doing many, Technical, industrial and crative its all there in her and she doesn't let one path make her destiny but she takes many, in a way she seems like she wants more, more, MORE but she never used to seem satisfied where she was. I guess she is a hard worker and has very original ideas, i mean Astro turf handbag??? who would think of that, I'm into fashion and I think its weird, but thats HER and many people love that originality. She now make feature lights and lamps, designing and making them, she has some really interesting work but my favourite work of hers is those handbags. They are quirky, fun and I love the originality. I could go on about her for so long,
Her work and educatiion history is so wide shes given herself many possibilites, so if she couldn't find a job in one of her areas she just has another skill inwhich will get her an even better job. She thinks with logic, which is interesting to see and I can relate, seeing the logic in gaining those skills even if they seem like an unrealistic thing to do, and how unecessary it may seem having those extras will bump up yourself in the industry because your less dependant and require less teaching.
Learn from this!!!!!

Final Images for my zine!

Introduction Page:
This page was drawn into my Visual Diary then scanned, I overlayed a Gradient and then used the effect screen so that it has a fade of red to black back to red in Photoshop.
The resaon I didnt use the original image is because i wanted a 2-d effect and having all of my hand drawn
images in my Zine would of made the binding messy and
unprofessional.
I really like this image, its a girl crying with a smile on her face and her body, hair and life all tie together to make the word "Insanity" so its basically saying the whole meaning of her life is insane.
Tracing paper over layed with many words for the Insane and a statement ;)
"Someone who has uncontrollable E-mo-tions " weaved into them

This was drawn into my visual diary with indian ink, Scanned into the computer overlayed with a gradient, screened, black backround and last of all added a couple brushes.
Its about a lost lover and how they will be forever in love, even as shadows, she will forever remain his.
Tracing paper overlayed with lyrics from the Pearl Jam song "Sad"
and Parts of a quote "Pleasure is a Shadow, Vanity is a Frame"

This was a very layed image, I added about 4 different brushes to create the frame effect, I used the filter Cutout to create the poster effect,
Played around with the contrast
Added a quote inside the frame using downloaded font
and cropped and changed the layout of the image.
This image still represents looking beyond,
Tracing paper overlayed:
Detailed image of the girl in a picture frame so like before looking beyond the frame...
and the black words from the quote repeated but the last word "delights" has been
crossed out and I wrote desires instead.

This has been drawen using indian ink, not much photshop has been done,
Basically just the contrast so that I could get the correct "Ying and Yang" effect
Its about how things change us and how we develop that split personality.
Tracing paper overlayed:
Two Pearl Jam songs
"Black" and "Nothingman"
The reason I chose these songs is because they had meaning of innocence being broken

So this is basically my zine, my front and back pages were just black  overlayed with tracing paper with a few simple statements and words, I didnt want to make the cover busy because of the inside of the zine,  its not busy but if I had the busy cover it would counter act the full effect of these messed up ideas inside. Then people would be paying more attention to the detail in the front instead of the detail and intense thoughts inside the zine. Yes a cover can attract a veiwer but wouldn't the simplicity and emptiness of my cover provoke the audiences curiosity as to why it's so blank, and inturn they will open my zine to see what its about because the front doesn't give you the answers you need to open it up, be curious and have your mind screwed with :)

Mid Production of my zine....

This is a hand drawn image i have layered with scrap booking paper, my idea inwhich i am trying
to convet through this image is the idea of looking
beyond what it in front of you and seeing the bigger picture

This was one of my original ideas for my zine, This idea was about
dreams and freedom
about how we can be free yet not be free,
It is tracing paper layered with card which had been stenciled on (from the workshop with Delwyn)
i have incorpaorated this to show my uses of resources and originality. Crepe paper has been used to add a cotton candy effect, adding to the dream like dilemma

My final Zine ideas introduction page, titled "Insanity" because
I changed the theme to insane thoughts and the event which cause them.
I'll also be adding a dictionary meaning to the word insanity and
Editing the final meaning with my own meaning. "Societies excuse for having any sort of imagination"

Another handrawn image for my final idea for my zine
Its of a couple traumiztized by the death of a lover
but they will forever be shadows once inlove
along with the insane and sad thoughts inwhich grief can cause.
I want to put lyrics in the backround. But I havn't figured out where to put them yet.

My Original zine idea was going to fantasy and dreams but inturn developed into something dark and posessive.. how surprising.... but I have been researching and looking through many magazines and storys and I noticed how insane and intense our emotions can get when something major has been put into our lives , and how it can change us not just physically but mentally we will change so dramitcally that society deems us as "insane" and I want to portray the idea that no we are normal we just think differently then you, or is it you which thinks differently to us so does that make you insane?? Major mind games.... But it will be scanned in and edited, then the pages will be overlayed with tracing paer to complete its full effect, the tracing paper is that fine line, its the inbetween so basically its my idea of what joins reality with our minds and how those little things can trigger those new ideas and old memories....

Babara Kruger Response

Reading Through her interview with 'EGG'
Babara Kruger sound like she is a very domintaing woman, She pushes these powerful messages through her work which inturn has provoked many to agree and disagree, She uses many well known symbols and images i.e; the american flag to single out and make others aware of her political opinion, To be able to get an audience with such controversial ideas interests me because it causes a stir and disturbs what we so call "this perfect society" . She knows how her veiwers mind works she shows them what they want to see but she twists it so the image has been changed into whats SHE wants them too see, and they keep coming back for more. Her idea of mind games and the controversy she uses is an idea inwhich i would like to explore more into.

Seraphine Pick Response

Seraphine Pick is an interesting character... Many people wouldn't understand what and why she does the art works she does because half the time even she doesn't know.
Many of her paintings are from images inwhich she has collected over the years, She adapts those images and makes them her own , They have a surrealistic look to them but she doesn't catorgorize herself into just one genre because her style has changed so much throughout her years of painting. Many of her thoughts and ideas of what her paintings should look like are only determined once the face has been complete, she basically goes with the flow because she doesnt believe you should predetermine the destiny of a painting, it should just freely flow from your mind; even though her style has changed her context has remained the same and what she does to help get her inspiration and her ideas from is photography, she has strong beliefs that it is a good starting point for gaining ideas and visualizing whats on the other end. Another peice of advice was to never think of the money while painting otherwise it becomes work and looses its carefree feel.
I reckon she is different how she works with what she wants doesn't go around wondering what her next peice should be but she enjoys life and lets whatever comes to her, work. I really like how even though she uses pre-existing images she layers them and creates one whole brand new image, she has reinvented many pictures but then has added her own quirky ideas to it. Its really a good way to express to the public that many pre existing images can create one piece of original work.

I find this painting interesting, it is like someones mind has just exploded onto a canvas. Its fun

I like this painting, the figure reminds me of an older red riding hood reliving her past events..

Manipulating The Image..Reponse to Powerpoint..

During this brief we were told we were going to be using Indesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. I've used them before during my highschool years but it would be really interesting for me to learn even more tricks .
So at the beggining  we were shown a powerpoint presentation to give us an insight into
what area we would be exploring and an indepth look into how imagery and text work together side by side to convey their idea out to the audience . I found This Powerpoint interesting because we got to see that past or present imagery has been used to help influence todays society and can even influence a whole art movement. Text can be very powerful, It can even portray a stronger image or even provoke strong feelings more than an ordinary image could because whilst you see the image in front of you the answers are already given  to what the whole idea is but if its left up to the mind to decide the picture it can create some interesting results..

Heres a few of the images and Artists works I found interesting during the powerpoint

Richard Lewer,
I really found him interesting because not only does he show his art on the walls but they are also his art.. Its like paintings on top of on very big painting, the sayings on the wall are comments and things others have said and he has picked up and remebered.. in other words he was eavesdropping, but what is interesting about this is that it shows honesty and commitment to his paintings because these words and thoughts have linked back to them. even though they are not all his own thoughts they are somebodies and each of the images seen here and the  words you can see and understand act asif they are the paintings stoy, mind and expressions.

Cara Ober
She layers her images and text, i like the bright colours she uses buts adds the dark images to it.. Good use of contrast.

The powerpoint has helped me pick The illustrators I want to research a bit more.
